Great book

This book is a great introduction to design patterns using PHP. All 23 of the patterns from the Gang of Four book are included, plus a couple of additional ones. What sets this apart is the simplicity of the examples, making this an easy read, and the common theme that prevails throughout the book which helps you compare and contrast the uses for the patterns.

The chapter on Model View Controller is probably the clearest explanation of MVC I have ever come across, with a fully working example yet one that has been boiled down to its basic parts.

I thoroughly recommend this book if you want to improve your use of PHP when creating classes, etc.

Hello my name is Danny wheelhouse and I am currently a writer living in England. I have always enjoyed writing fiction from a very young age and this is the first book I have written. I suffer from a condition known as Autism which affects the process and perception of how someone interprets information especially in social circumstances. During my school years I was unaware I had this condition and I was also bullied both physically and mentally by both students and teachers. My school years were not pleasant in the slightest and it wasn't until I left school when I was diagnosed that I was Autistic. However, I had a few coping mechanisms in school and one was writing. I used to forget the dreary reality around me by writing and creating stories of unique characters going on incredible adventures. I would create entire worlds in my head to escape from the harshness of school. I think that was when I really started to develop such a fondness for writing. I would write short stories all the time even when I wasn't supposed to be like for example during maths class. Teachers would constantly punish me for this, they would tell me I was wasting my time and that I will never amount to anything. Even today I still struggle often with society and social interaction but my passion for writing still burns brightly. I hope you all enjoy reading my book as much as I did writing it. I have meticulously gone through my book to make it as perfect as I can but some slight mistakes may remain.

Tremendous, but challenging.

This penultimate edition of the You Don't Know JS series explores everything async: Promises and Generators, mainly. As usual, the content was deep and the examples challenging (in this edition especially so). This book is certainly not for the feint of heart; if you're not an advanced developer and you don't know about these topics, you might consider reading some simpler introductory material online before tackling this.

The one negative was the editing; there were many places where a sharp editor could have really clarified and simplified matters. There were a number of places where I'd read a section two or three times, and basically say to myself, "so Kyle's saying X Y Z," and then three paragraphs later see him say almost verbatim, "X Y Z." On the one hand it's always nice seeing that you correctly interpreted something difficult, but on the other a more straightforward presentation would have helped. And many other areas would have similarly benefited from a tightening up of the language, and stating more clearly and up front what the lessons to follow were.

But to be clear, the above criticism should not for a moment prevent a senior JS developer from tackling this book. It'll be well worth your time, and you'll no doubt learn a tremendous amount.

Kyle Simpson continues to impress with his in-depth study of JavaScript in this essential book series. This may be his best book yet for those who aspire to JavaScript mastery. Promises make JavaScript almost a new programming language, and if you read the book carefully and try the examples, you will come to appreciate why Promises are so important.

The book tends to concentrate more on the why than the how, so before beginning, I suggest you spend some time experimenting with JavaScript asynchronous programming using the Node.js Async and Bluebird libraries. Once you are familiar with the raw mechanics of async programming, the book’s thorough treatment and rationale for the why of Promises will be easier to comprehend.

Audiophiles Should Read This Book!

Ok. The author is a "somebody" in the world of high-end audio. I recognized his name from articles appearing in Stereophile magazine, most recently in the January 2015 issue. He knows more about the recording process than most anyone. He communicates his ideas very well, but, most importantly, he address the most relevant subjects and issues.

This is a great book for an audiophile to read because it examines the details of source origination -- the recording process -- and relates it directly to the playback process. The chapters on mastering are must reading, especially the discussion of loudness, monitor quality, and monitor setup. Oh, and don't forget the chapter on jitter. This term is thrown around in audio equipment analysis as if everyone knows what it is. The discussion is so confusing elsewhere, one might be thinking it has something to do with insects dancing inside a USB cable (jitterbugs). Read what Katz has to say. Very informative.

I loved the book, and will keep it as a reference. Too bad it didn't come with a hard cover, or a better cover. The cover paper is really cheap quality, but I won't subtract a star for that.

The best book on mastering just got better, again.

What can I say, this is the 3rd time I have purchased this book and it just keeps getting better and more up to date. Bob is the guru of audio mastering without a doubt, and his technical information is well worth reading for all stripes of audio engineers, not just those with designs on mastering. There are tidbits throughout, so you don't have to read it cover to cover, just open a section and get up to speed quickly.
