Not worth

I was looking for another smooth jazz piano booklet, as I own quite some mostly from the Hal Leonard Series. My disappointment was big. 20 songs all at a length of roughly 25 seconds. The grooves are really too short to develop nice musical ideas. The recording quality is horrible, the drum sound is so bad that you do not want to play along. Most of the pieces are at best of mediocre musical quality as the chord progrssions do not deliver any musical inspirations. Worst of all are the piano solo keyboard lines. Save your money and go for Hal Leonard publications.

Great Learning and Jamming Resource

I recently bought this book and found it to be a good purchase to help develop my smooth jazz keyboard playing, since I am mainly a guitarist looking to expand my skills.
The 20 songs are broken down into three eight-measure examples that seem to progress from beginner to advanced levels. Each example consists of piano with rhythm backing tracks followed by just the backing tracks that you can practice along with, which I found really useful. The examples are very melodic as one would expect to hear on a smooth jazz album. The grooves cover a wide variety of smooth jazz styles including jazz, funk, R&B, pop-jazz, reggae, Latin, gospel, bluesy shuffle, and other styles. I also bought the extended play-along MP3 files of all the 20 grooves that last approximately three minutes each and I have a lot of fun jamming along. I would highly recommend this book.

I truly enjoyed Roderick and Amina's story. After hearing Rods side, I had to agree, Amina left for nothing. He was pissing me off but he was laying it out there....straight no chaser. Ms. Priss lawd she is too darn funny...especially calling out that snake Katrina. No lie I was kind of getting worried about R&A, this author is not afraid to throw a wrench...hehehehe so I was most definitely sitting on pins and needles. Great Read!!!

The true meaning of true unconditional love. They loved each other, he had a hard time showing that to her verbally. She wanted marriage, I don't blame her they were together for ten years. She felt she had to leave, in which she didn't. But their separation both made them realize a lot. I loved the fact that neither one of them never cheated or even can't close to cheating

What A Rush!

This book starts off with our heroine from the first two books, Jade, reeling from the revelation at the end of the second book. While fleeing from the madman still trying to torment her, she gets another note from him: "You took something from me, now I'm going to take something from you". Instantly in panic mode, she reveals her secret to her human best friend in order to try to protect her. The tension never really lets up, and as has become Ms. Carrero's style, the last 2 pages reveal a major bomb that yet again sends Jade reeling. For more on that, I guess we'll have to wait for Ms. Carrero to write book 4!

Go ahead and pick up book 1 (Evolution) before reading this one, as this particular series you really have to read in order to understand even half of what is going on. I can tell you from both my own experience and my wife's that once you read Evolution, you'll be hooked on this series!

Ms. Carrero, please write faster! ;)

The Next Step

With a title like that you can expect great treachery to not only the mind, but the heart. It makes you wonder about whom you can really trust and who you can't. This book is the third in the Evolution series and it ends with another cliffhanger. People with advanced brain functions are rumored to exist and lives like the ones in this series could be close to the truth. Read this sci-fi/suspense story of young lovers as they search for the truth to their advanced existence. I eagerly await the fourth. The books are short but sweet.

Good easy read

I loved this installment in the evolution series. The writing is simple, although the author is from Australia so the vernacular is a bit different(something I liked). This was a great read for me during my nursing classes, the story is not complicated it is easy to follow all the characters(there are several). Carrero times the action and lulls in action perfectly. I loved the twist at the end and I can't wait to read the last book.

Marketing for the Masochist

I guess I'm really going against the masses with my 2-star review of this book since the authors claim that it was so successful it warranted a third edition, but I was sorely disappointed with my purchase and plan on returning it. The book opens up with a thorough and dry introduction about why *disciplined* marketing planning is so important. I can't say I was really sold on their main argument--which was basically that marketing can only be done well when it's totally comprehensive and systematic. Those are definitely good traits to adopt in any undertaking, but I just feel that this book is overkill.
The book touts its main benefit as reducing the complexity of coming up with a marketing plan to "just" a 10-step process. It then takes two chapters and about 75 pages just to outline only the first step of this process, called the business review, and describes in painstaking detail everything that the marketer or marketing consultant should do in order to get as thorough an understanding of the business as possible.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about doing my due diligence and developing a thorough understanding of the company I'm doing a marketing plan for, but creating a marketing plan in the manner that these authors describe would easily take over 300 hours of time.
What's more, I don't get the sense from this book that there is an overarching guiding theory into which all elements of the book can be placed in context. Rather, it seems the approach of the authors is to take every known idea from the canon of marketing and incorporate each idea into some step of the lengthy 10-step process.
In the end, I just feel like this book goes overboard with the requirements it demands of the "disciplined" and "comprehensive" marketer. I can see why they use the word disciplined to describe their approach since in my view it would be truly painful to endure it.
I was very interested to read the reviews of others on this book, and I was disappointed to find that I had the opportunity to be the first reviewer. I'll keep looking around for my dream "how to prepare a marketing plan" book, but in the meantime I've realized that the "disciplined and comprehensive approach" is not for me.

The best hands-on book available

I've been using this book since 1995. It's not the type of book you'd read cover to cover, but it's an invaluable planning resource for any marketing manager. The authors leave no stoned unturned. If you are writing a plan or launching a business, this is the best practical book out there. Other marketing books get bogged down in theoretical case studies that offer no hands-on tools. This book is a great tool.

The Goliath Of Marketing Books

If you are a mid-sized company, I can't imagine that there is a better book out there for you to plan your marketing by. This is a massive tome that covers all aspects of marketing, from building a brand to market position to advertising. Its a book that you probably won't read straight through, but that could be a valuable reference for your company.

As solid as the advice in this book is, it has one major drawback: its overwhelming size. This book would not be helpful for a smaller business where the marketing team is just one person. And it probably won't help huge companies with dedicated marketing arms. But, if you are looking for a plan to take your mid-sized company forward then this may be the perfect book.

Some of the things that I really like about this book include:

* Tons of visuals. Helps make the massive amount of material more digestible.

* Case studies. Proven companies tell their tales to support the marketing principles.

* Table of Contents, Index. Very well done contents and index make this a valuable reference source for your business library.

All in all, a very helpful marketing text. Recommended.

About the Author
Tim Milne OBE was the nephew of Winnie the Pooh writer AA Milne, retired from SIS in October 1968 and never spoke publicly of his friendship with Kim Philby. He later wrote a full and frank account of his association which was accepted for publication. When he submitted it to MI6 for approval, he was told that not a word of this account of the truth about Philby was ever to be published. Following Milne’s death in 2010 his family decided to finally release it.

A Fascinating account

This is the only first-hand account I have ever read of Philby by a close friend, professional colleague and career intelligence officer and is excellently written. The account of Philby's time at Westminster and their travels together through central Europe during university holidays to me is absolutely fascinating as are the lengthy chapters on work and life in Section V of the SIS. While Milne does not excuse Philby's actions, he comes closer to providing reasons than anything else I've seen in print. Clearly, Philby was a person who inspired great loyalty and even admiration among his friends and colleagues in the British service, the writer Graham Greene being just one of these. For anyone interested in understanding Philby this is a great read as it's a true account; the other book I read recently is Ben Macintyre's book about Kim Philby's supposedly close friendship with Nicholas Elliott which I found full of factual errors and distortions. This book is well written but doesn't really offer much in additional information on Britain's most infamous spy. If you know nothing of H. A. R. Philby it will mean little to you, if you do it offers modest entertainment. The author was the famous A. A. Milne's nephew and a career foreign service official. He knew Philby from school days at Westminster in London but they went to different universities.

The author strives for fairness while acknowledging Philby was a long time friend. It seems Milne never suspected the spy of working for the Russians but he had a large amount of company in that. One thing did puzzle me was MI6s forbidding the publication of the book in 1970. It was finally published posthumously by Milne's daughter and I cant see anything that would have harmed Great Britain's interests. I suspect the Secrets Act covers a lot of sins in that fine country.

Tim Milne knew Kim Philby better than most people, he remained a friend throughout their careers in the British Security Service. He takes us into the world of documenting, evaluating, assessing scraps of information gleaned by clandestine means from enemy sources. At this time this was the domain of intelligent "top people". This to outsiders was quaintly British, its members came from the best Public (USA private) schools, good colleges and well known families. This was the best "vetting" system. From childhood all were known and could be entrusted with top secrets. These people were tasked with discovering the plans and thoughts of the enemy by every means possible and to outwit and defeat them. Their work was an outstanding success but Britain has a long history of spying, going back hundreds of years. Kim Philby was accepted by the Security Service because he belonged, he was part of the club, he had all the credentials. Good family,well known Public School and Cambridge University. His other resume more ominous. He was also employed by Soviet Intelligence. . He was popular, to his friends constant and had a remarkable aptitude for his work for British Intelligence while maintaining his contacts with his other masters. In spite of the many books written about Philby the mystery remains. What attracted him to the Communist cause? He was at ease among his Establishment friends among whom were writers, journalists, politicians and he had an interesting social life. He did not appear to have an interest in what may be considered the social injustices of the period. He chose a double life of immense stress culminating in exile. Tim Milne charts their lives and when the treachery is finally unveiled there appears more sorrow than anger at the denouement.
This book is interesting as it illustrates the lesser known human side of Kim Philby The early days of trips to Europe. His domestic life and the life-long friendship with the author.

About the Author

Christine Nash is currently Deputy Head of the Institute for Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, UK,�and also Programme Director for the new online MSc in Sport Coaching and Performance. She was a national swimming coach in the UK and has coached in the USA. She is currently involved in supporting coach education with a variety of sports. She is a member of the Coaching Standards Group, the committee that endorses coach education courses in the UK. She also sits on the research committee of the International Council for Coaching Excellence.
