IF ONLY there was a real Shadowlands!

There is just no writer quite like Cherise Sinclair in this genre! Her books provide wonderful fantasies, but with a realistic turn with the various BDSM practices she depicts. Her Doms are always loving and careful of their subs, and this newest in the Shadowlands series is no exception. Anyone reading the previous 7 books in the series is well aquainted with Sally, and knows that she has problems connecting with any but the strongest of Doms. But there turns out to be so much back story that runs under the surface, and most of it isn't that great. It all comes to a head for her when she gets into a bad relationship. Of course, she needs 2 Federal Agents to come to her rescue! They not only protect her from further abuse at the hands of her ex, they dig into her problems that have made it hard for her to ask for what she needs or wants.
There is still an unresolved bit of business with the northeast quadrant of the Harvest Association dogging the Feds, and Sally gets hold of some information she can exploit to help locate the head of the organization. She and the Feds have a final scene with a member of this organization. Then the Shadowlands Doms celebrate the end of the organization.
All our old friends make appearances in the book, most notably Dan and Kari, Nolan and Beth, and of course, Master Z and Jessica. Gabi helps Sally with a dilemma and gets in a few zingers, and Marcus keeps her from going overboard! All the others are at least mentioned. I have always loved Dan and Kari since book #2 and was glad to read more about them. Nolan has a heart of pure gold and it shows in this book! I love Gabi and Marcus and their complimentary senses of humor. Well, darn it, I just love them all, and it was great to catch up!
Now a few words about Cherise's writing style. She is really tops! Her rhetorical devices follow a pattern I've noticed in the other books, where she uses similes/metaphors based on the characters' occupations to make points. In this book, it's Sally's occupation working with computers. For example, when she starts to think about possibly loving the Feds, "She deleted that thought before it could even run. Reboot. Back to the subroutine programmed for sex, please." Computer-ese is scattered throughout the book. Usually, there is a pet (an animal one, besides the subbie, LOL) in either the Dom's or sub's home, most often a cat. It's obvious Cherise loves the critters and understands them well. The cat's disdain for humans except when a human can fill a need such as feeding, petting, grooming, petting, staying out of its way, petting (get the picture?) is well depicted!
The thing that really gets me coming back is the humor in these books. Some of the scenes have me laughing out loud, so hard I'm in danger of wetting myself! The sub character Gabi is always good for some real zingers, but she also has had a baaaad influence on the other subs! Her Master, Marcus has such a great sense of humor, he handles her smart-ass comments with a laugh and a hard hand to make her ass smart!
There is always such kindness and caring among the Shadowlands family of characters, they keep pulling me in. I thank Cherise for her skill and hard work in coming up with yet another winner from the Shadowlands!

Emotional, Sexy thrill ride!

If Only is the second Masters of the Shadowlands book that I have made TOP PICK on the blog. I can't begin to tell you how fantastic Sally's story was. I think it's because I have grown so fond of Sally over the past books that I wanted to dive right into her story. God, how much I have missed the Shadowlands. The Shadowlands is more than a place where people can live their lifestyle out in the open, it's a safe haven for some people. Cherise Sinclair does an amazing job of transporting us to a place where we can hear the cracking of whips and smell the leather all around us, and actually we are just in the confines of our bedroom. People read to escape their lives for a bit, and you really do that with IF ONLY. Believe me when I say, you will not want to leave the Shadowlands or the family that you will fall in love with while you are there.
"You'll have us both inside you, pushing you past thinking, past reason. You won't have any control, sweetheart. We're going to take it all away."
Now, if you are familiar with this series, than you know the type of submissive that Sally is. She has been a trainee at the Shadowlands forever, and she knows how these Doms work. She knows how to push their buttons. When she returns to the Shadowlands after getting out of a bad relationship, she is shut down, not like the Sally we all know and love. Galen Kouros and Vance Buchanan, or "The Feds," notice this in Sally, and decide that they want to soothe whatever is hanging over their spitfire submissive. They both attempt to help Sally with an enormous amount of push back from their little sub. Ugly pasts from all three come to light and threatens their relationship. The past isn't the only thing threatening their lives. The Harvest Association is still out there, and Sally, Galen, and Vance will have to confront the past, and fight for the future they all desperately want and need.
If Only was a gritty, tough, love story that was so full of emotion, it definitely had me captivated the whole way through. Even though it was tough to read, I am glad Cherise made us dive in to the past of all three of these amazing characters. I love when such broken souls find their way to each other and even though it's hard, heal each others hearts. The fact that Galen and Vance were different in so many aspects, made them a perfect match for Sally.
The side stories in IF ONLY broke my heart. Just when you thought the other couples from The Shadowlands were solid, life gets in the way. Not everything is perfect anymore for the couples we know and love. Our favorite characters return: Rainie, Kari, Gabi, Jessica, Dan (who you will love even more after this), and of course Master Z. The love and support that they show Sally was beautiful. They all think of her as theirs, and they protect what's theirs...ALWAYS.

If Only was filled with excitement and emotional roller coasters all the way through. The BDSM scenes were spectacular, and the tender loves scenes were off the charts HOT. Another freaking HOME RUN and MUST READ for the Shadowlands Series! Cherise Sinclair can do NO WRONG!

What happened to Sally

I have loved Sally since she was first introduced into the series. If Only the author had actually written a book about that character instead of deciding that as with all her other books the female character had to be damaged. The bright, happy character we have seen in other books barely makes an appearance and instead is insecure, unhappy and not fun to read about. And she isn't the only character whose story suddenly changes. Dan and Kari who feature prominently had a sudden change to their back story as well. There was a time interval during which books in this series weren't coming out due to some publishing issue. Sadly the author who came back from that is not the same one who was writing before. This is the second book and it is obvious just what a downward slide is happening.
