Guess who came for dinner!

Great read! I'd love to see more work from Patin. This short story places its reader in the mind of Rexar the Minotaur, who makes an unlikely alliance in order to rid the world of an unspeakable evil... an uninvited houseguest. Seriously though, the story draws you in, and provides great entertainment. Excellent choice for a quick read.

MY BUSINESS, YOUR PLEASURE is the perfect short novella with a well-developed romance set in a good paranormal world.

Justin has always wanted to explore a personal relationship with his business partner and sex demon, Elliot, but he'd be breaking his own rule of no messing with immortals. Justin decides to have a one night stand with any immortal to attempt to work out his attraction, but Elliot learns of his plans and shows up at the club. Elliot uses every trick in his seduction arsenal to convince Justin they should be partners in more ways than just business.

I loved this novella. Justin and Elliot are complete characters and I could see their attraction to each other. It's rare that an erotic novella manages to simultaneously build an emotional connection between the leads but this novella does it. The novella wisely had Justin and Elliot know each other well before the night their relationship changes so the romance develops in believable ways. I especially liked that Elliot is so open about his feelings for Justin and how he uses sex to show Justin. Justin's rule of not having a relationship with immortals is the perfect tension to keep the men apart initially and I really liked how this unfolds.

The other great thing about this novella is that it's set in a strong paranormal world but it doesn't overwhelm the romance. Elliot is a sex demon and how this plays into who he is and his relationship with Justin is all integrated so well. I like this world of immortals so well that I hope the author continues to set novellas in it.

MY BUSINESS, YOUR PLEASURE is a wonderful romance I highly recommend to MM readers.

"Nothing can prepare you for the intensity of feeling when you gaze at your sleeping child. If you were called upon to sacrifice your life for them it would be a lot easier if you could get them to fall asleep and look adorable before you threw yourself in front of the speeding bus, marauding home invader or whatever. Awake, they're a different ball game altogther".

I blind-brought this title - the cover and the title caught my eye - and it's proved to be a delightful discovery. I'm a father of two (soon to be three) and I found this book as helpful as it is hilarious. The best thing about a book like this is, as Jonathan says, that "the greatest danger we face as modern parents is that we'll worry so much about the job we're doing, we'll forget why we're doing it in the first place". I'm sure this book will translate well anywhere in the world and I highly recommend it.

Alexis Van Hurkman is a writer, director, and colorist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He has written widely on the topic of color correction, including Adobe SpeedGrade Classroom in a Book, Autodesk Smoke Essentials, Apple Pro Training Series titles The Encyclopedia of Color Correction, Advanced Color Correction and Effects in Final Cut Pro, and Final Cut Pro X Advanced Editing, as well as the first edition of this book. A good overall introduction

After years of photography (including the "good old days" in the darkroom processing film and making prints), the fact that cameras come with good quality video options has led me to be more serious about video making. The inclusion of SpeedGrade in Adobe's CC subscription provided me with a tool to actually do some serious grading of that video... but how? I've dug into several resources, such as Adobe's Classroom in a Book for SpeedGrade, and now this book. As someone who is a novice to video grading, but experienced with photo "grading" this book did an excellent job covering all the basics from the point of view of digital video/film grading. It did a nice job of being application-agnostic, focusing on the fundamentals that all of these programs work on. I would strongly recommend it as a starting point for anyone interested in beginning grading or moving from rudimentary work to actually understanding what they are doing. The inclusion of SpeedGrade for Adobe subscribers and the availability of the powerful "Lite" version of DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic means that the tools to improve your video are easily available, and this book will get you from zero to having a good shot at turning basically good footage into fairly stunning images.

That said, I wish that the content from the author's companion "Look Book" was included with this one. I gladly would have paid more for one complete volume. This book covers the fundamentals, but the companion book covers how to turn base footage into more stylized imagery, such as various "film looks".

Essential Color Correction Handbook for all film producers and editors!

Perhaps this handbook covers more than you'll ever need about the how, why, and nuances of color compositing in film (and by extension to photography). The book is loaded with color pictures illustrating each aspect of correcting colors - and importantly why these corrections are made. As an hobbyist in videography (and photography), I use the typical editing tools in Adobe Premiere Elements to make adjustments. After reading Alexis Van Hurkman's handbook, we learn there are so many more improvements (minor and major) that are made buy professional colorists in video and cinema productions.
This handbook shared many ideas to use in my own video edits and more importantly, demonstrated the amazing amount of work and artistry that is used in each and every professional film. When the each scene turns out to be outstanding in form and color, it is not luck; someone has put a great deal of experience and work into making each scene perfect.

Great book!

Whether new to color correction, or a pro - this book has so many nuggets of essential information that even with a strong working knowledge, it will be a fantastic asset when you need to reference something. It looks at different applications from FCPX to Davinci Resolve as well as a plethora of capture situations from DSLR and film cameras, as well as new cameras such as the Black Magic Cinema cameras.
It has links to work files and is seriously well crafted. Thank you Alexis. I'm a University film and video instructor and indie filmmaker, and I definitely endorse it.

I teach a TOEFL Prep course and adopted this book ...

I teach a TOEFL Prep course and adopted this book for our course. The book comes with access to a testing website that reproduces the look and feel of the TOEFL test. Only one big problem. For the last 2 months April and May of 2016, the website has not been functional. Students are unable to complete their practice testing because the website is always down. Access to the website was guaranteed as part of the book. My multiple emails and complaints to Cambridge customer service and Tech Support have not produced any results. I strongly suggest you consider another book. This one's website is not reliable.

I have recently started to learn skills and tips from this book, but my review is related to the quality of how the book was printed. The first thing I mentioned that the cover looks as if somebody used it before, but I didn't find any written notes in the book. Maybe, the book has been transported several times from one storage to another for several months, but cover is not perfect. However, the main disadvantage of the quality of print is that there are no pages from 125 to 140. I don't have 16 pages!!! It's not acceptable!
P.S. Somebody wrote that the website where we can do tests is not working. Now it's working.
