intriguing family drama

Twenty-six year old architect Annie Ferguson looks forward to starting on her new job and living in Manhattan with her boyfriend Seth. As she is euphoric and confident about the changes in her life, she thought nothing about her vow to be the guardian of her two nieces and nephew she made to her sister Jane. That is until Jane and her husband Bill die in a plane crash, so Annie raises the three preadolescent children (Liz, Ted and Katie). Seth cannot deal with the change so ends their relationship.

Sixteen years later, Annie raised her wards with love while running a successful architectural firm. Ted attends law school, Katie is studying design at college; and Liz is a globetrotting Vogue editor. When Annie sprains her ankle, she goes to the emergency room where she meets TV news anchor Tom. Katie drops out of Pratt to work at a tattoo parlor while traveling to Teheran with her Iranian-American boyfriend Paul. Liz's French lover Jean-Louis seems back with his former lover Francoise, the mother of his child. Ted has a tryst with his older law professor, but when he tries to end their sexual relationship, Pattie stabs him in the hand.

This intriguing family drama is an enjoyable contemporary as the aunt of the three orphaned children proves she is A Good Woman when she takes over raising them with the deaths of their parents. The tale contains way too much angst keeping the four subplots from gelling into a cohesive story line, but instead competes for the lead. Still fans will enjoy Danielle Steel's latest as the strong cast makes the case that family is the ultimate proof of chaos theory.

I read this book in about 6 hours. That's because by page 6, I only had to read the first two sentences of each paragraph. The rest of the paragraph was a repeat of a previous paragraph, or in a few cases an almost exact repeat of the paragraph above it. This has been an ongoing problem with Steel's books for several years now.
The story line was good and interesting, that's why I gave it 2 stars, but I'm really glad I quit buying Danielle Steel's books and now get them free from the library. I would definitely feel cheated out of my money otherwise.

I loved this books so much. I always read the reviews of other people before I buy a book and I almost didn't buy this one because of a review I read. The person said there was abuse in this book by the H. Let me be clear that there is NOT abuse in this book by the H. He never touches the h and would never touch her like that. I am so glad I went with my gut and bought this book. Yes, the H is a bit crazy and if this was a true story, then it would be a bit creepy, but this is fiction and this story was great. Can't wait for the next book of Paige and Captain!

I've been a huge fan of Alexa Riley for a while now and I was so happy when I heard they were coming out with a full length novel! We have Miles aka Oz who is rich, alpha, possessive and over the top. Normally these kind of guys would annoy me but I love the way they are written by this author. Mallory has had to work hard for everything that she has since she grew up in the foster care system. She is no nonsense and has a good head on her shoulders. I loved how smart and driven her character was and how she called Miles out on his behavior. Miles has secretly been watching and plotting on how he was going to have Mallory forever. Some may consider it stalking but I call it hard love. Granted he went to extremes measures at times I thought it was cute and endearing how he always made sure she was taken care of throughout the years. Only 5 years go by before they can be together but he's not way older than her so it worked for me. I loved the connection the two characters had with each other and found myself cheesing like a teenage girl while reading. Can we talk about how hot these sex scenes were?! I need my own man with a limo ASAP!! When everything gets revealed and trust me it's a lot to digest! I'm happy Mallory took time to herself and didn't just let him back in 1,2,3. Make him work for it girl!! One issue I had was with the father and their past history. I was expecting more drama between the two of them at the end of the book. The scene with them two fell just a little flat for me. Aside from that one thing I really enjoyed this book. The secondary characters Paige (Mallory's Roommate) and Ryan (Mile’s Head of Security) were good additions and I can't wait to read about them in the next book. Oh and we got several epilogues which I loved!! It's nice to see the characters down the years and how they are doing. Fans of Alexa Riley will enjoy this cute, over the top, borderline stalkerish, romantic story.

The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between

-It’s got that Alexa Riley vibe, supersized. This could be good for you….or not. An Alexa Riley novella has certain hallmarks and I usually can enjoy it for what it is, a tasty bit of smut with OTT situations and sugary sweet love mixed with hot dirty sex. These crazy situations can certainly lead to fun times. I know there are plenty of friends who dug this and I say different strokes and all that. However...

-It, unfortunately, didn’t work for me. Because OTT alpha caveman or as I like to call Oz, creepy stalker dude, may have worked better if I knew less about him. There’s no growth, no real remorse, and he’d absolutely won’t change a thing because as he says, he just can’t.

-It’s all in the differences. There’s a difference between a protective hero and straight up psycho who never respects the heroine’s decisions. There’s a difference between an empathetic heroine who processes then forgives, and one pretty much “oh well, it’s sweet that he’s that psychotically crazy about me.” These are important distinctions and they can make a romance turn from fun to squick in no time flat. Even some sweet moments that happen in the second half of the book lost some of their sweetness because they felt too little too late.

-Now, don’t get me wrong - I’ve loved dysfunctional romances and Oz and Mallory are that to the nth degree. I don’t necessarily have a problem with a romance like that IF I think the heroine can go toe to toe with her hero and has some self-respect. And that leads me to…
-Doormat Mallory. She lets herself be Jedi-mind tricked into thinking obsession is love. All I wanted to tell her was “girl, you need an Order of Protection.” I was “told” several times how smart she is, but she missed so many obvious signs and how can you google and not find out some things? And seriously, when even other characters in the book (including his family members) repeatedly refer to Oz as creepy and obsessed, listen to them. She spent way too much of her inner monologue justifying the hero’s psychotic behavior.

-Future story is more intriguing IMO. To end on a more positive note, I’m way more interested in Paige, who had some pretty kickass moments and Ryan aka Captain, who seems possessive in a non-dickish way. I definitely liked them way more than I did Oz or Mallory.

The Bottom Line
Nope. Unfortunately, this first full length novel isn’t my cup of tea. The teaser for the next book, however, has potential and two characters that I liked. Fingers crossed.

Christopher Rouff holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. In 2005 he won the Best Research Paper Award from the NASA Office of Safety and Mission Assurance (OSMA), Software Assurance Research Program (SARP); the Best Paper Award from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Information Systems Division (Code 580) and the Space Act Award for NASA patents. He is currently a technology manager at Lockheed Martin.

He obtained his PhD in Computer Science Engineering from JNTUH, Hyderabad and Master degree in Computer Science and Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, Odisha. He has more than 27 years of teaching and research experience. His research interest includes machine learning, data mining, swarm intelligence studies and their applications to engineering. He has more than 98 publications to his credit in various reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He has edited many volumes from Springer AISC and LNCS in past and he is also the editorial board member in few international journals. He is a senior member of IEEE and Life Member of Computer society of India. Currently, he is the National Chairman of Division-V (Education and Research) of Computer Society of India.

Dr. J.K. Mandal�has M.Sc. in Physics from Jadavpur University in 1986, M.Tech. in Computer Science from University of Calcutta. He was awarded PhD. in Computer Science & Engineering by Jadavpur University in 2000. Presently, he is working as Professor of Computer Science & Engineering and former Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Management, Kalyani University, Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal for two consecutive terms. He started his career as lecturer at NERIST, Arunachal Pradesh in September, 1988. He has teaching and research experience of 28 years. His areas of research include coding theory, data and network security, remote sensing and GIS based applications, data compression, error correction, visual cryptography, steganography, security in MANET, wireless networks and unify computing. He has produced 11 PhD degrees, three submitted (2015) and 8 are ongoing. He has supervised 3 M.Phil and 30 M.Tech thesis. He is life member of Computer Society of India since 1992, CRSI since 2009, ACM since 2012, IEEE since 2013 and Fellow member of IETE since 2012, Executive member of CSI Kolkata Chapter. He has delivered invited lectures and acted as program chair of many international conferences and also edited 9 volumes of proceedings from Springer AISC series, CSI 2012 from McGraw-Hill, CIMTA 2013 from Procedia Technology, Elsevier. He is reviewer of various International Journals and Conferences. He has over 355 articles and 5 books published to his credit.

Dr. Siba K. Udgata is a Professor of School of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Hyderabad, India. He is presently heading Centre for Modelling, Simulation and Design (CMSD), a high performance computing facility at University of Hyderabad. He has got his Masters followed by Ph.D in Computer Science (mobile computing and wireless communication). His main research interests are Wireless Communication, Mobile Computing, Wireless Sensor Networks and Intelligent Algorithms. He was a United Nations Fellow and worked in the United Nations University/ International Institute for Software Technology (UNU/IIST), Macau as research fellow in the year 2001. Dr. Udgata is working as a principal investigator in many Government of India funded research projects mainly for development of wireless sensor network applications and application of swarm intelligence techniques. He has published extensively in refereed international journals and conferences in India as well as abroad. He was also in the editorial board of many Springer LNCS/LNAI and Springer AISC Proceedings.�

Prof. Vikrant Bhateja�is Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Shri Ramswaroop Memorial Group of Professional Colleges (SRMGPC), Lucknow and also the Head (Academics & Quality Control) in the same college. His area of research include digital image and video processing, computer vision, medical imaging, machine learning, pattern analysis and recognition, neural networks, soft computing and bio-inspired computing techniques. He has more than 90 quality publications in various international journals and conference proceedings. Can't wait to take test. This is just what I needed to round out my study materials. Great instructions on what to do, and how to do it. I have the whole set. Each one comes with a thank you not from the author. Very nice touch and very classy.

An excellent teacher

I am a novice blacksmith, but Mark Aspery is an excellent teacher and this book covers the fundamentals of blacksmithing quite well.

He begins with safety and then moves into the fundamental tools - anvil and anvil stand, vice stand, hammer styles - and how to use them properly. He emphasizes the importance of square-octagon-round tapering. Throughout he uses humor and interesting examples which stick with you through the learning process.

Following the above introduction he moves into tools and how to craft them - various chisels, punches and drifts. Several of these are specialized tools that are to be used for the later projects in the book. At the end of the tool section he discusses the basics of heat treatment.

The latter two-thirds of the book are all projects from Wizard Bottle Opener to various tongs and a simple knife blank. Some of the projects are more tools, including scrolling tongs and some bottom tools and a few more tongs.

I'm very happy with this purchase so far. The book is abundantly illustrated with black & white photographs as well as a few drawings and graphs. After purchasing the book, I was lucky enough to attend a conference at which Mr. Aspery was giving a demonstration. His teaching ability there was as well-balanced as withing his writing. He is able to educate both novice and advanced blacksmiths simultaneously without making novices feel that they are being talked over while giving more advanced students additional insight into skills they already have.

The first modern Blacksmith Textbook

This is the text book we use at out blacksmithing school in Los Angeles. It covers all the topics required for the Level 1 certificate from the California Blacksmith Association. There is truly no better book on blacksmithing. You will learn both the practical and theoretical aspects of forming metal. It covers tool making and many impressive projects.

Topics include how to hold and use the hammer, including how to modify the handle so you stop getting blisters.

Tool making includes chisels, punches, scrolling wrench, drifts, hardy tools, and lots of different tongs.

Projects include a wizard bottle opener, wizard hook, forge welding, spatula, ladle, fork, spoon, and knife.

The author sells this on his website for $63. So Google him and order it directly.

About the Author
John Langan has taught reading and writing at Atlantic Cape Community College near Atlantic City, New Jersey, for more than twenty-five years. The author of a popular series of college textbooks on both writing and reading, John enjoys the challenge of developing materials that teach skills in an especially clear and lively way. Before teaching, he earned advanced degrees in writing at Rutgers University and in reading at Rowan University. He also spent a year writing fiction that, he says, is now at the back of a drawer waiting to be discovered and acclaimed posthumously. While in school, he supported himself by working as a truck driver, a machinist, a battery assembler, a hospital attendant, and an apple packer. John now lives with his wife, Judith Nadell, near Philadelphia. In addition to his wife and Philly sports teams, his passions include reading and turning on nonreaders to the pleasure and power of books. Through Townsend Press, his educational publishing company, he has developed the nonprofit Townsend Library, a collection of more than a hundred new and classic stories.

Excellent, Fun, Witty Book! Perfect for Summer Reading!

This is my first title written solely by Eva LeNoir and certainly won't be my last. Having recently read and enjoyed Blackballed, a book Ms. LeNoir co-authored, and then seeing this gorgeous cover on Disheveled I couldn't sign up to read fast enough. Needless to say, I'm now hooked on the #UCC saga thanks to Cole Sterling and Delilah Jameson so I can't wait to see what future installments to the series hold.

Disheveled, written simply with a lot of heart and humor, reads fast enticingly leading you into the DC area to fall in love with Cole, Delilah, and the #UCC girls. This book makes you feel good about love stories. It's light hearted, no overwhelming pain or suffering from either character, allowing to simply enjoy reading the story and with a big smile on your face.

Cole and Delilah are roommates with a very close relationship they both cherish. With their friendship providing a solid foundation in their lives neither Cole nor Delilah have pushed for anything beyond simple flirtations. They're really sweet together and super cute with their banter, useless but fun knowledge of 80's movies, and the intimacy the reader feels between the two as we get cozy reading the changes subtly happening in their relationship. Cole, a hard hitting lawyer, who's good-hearted manipulations make him all the hotter because LeNoir reminds even book boyfriends are men. And men aren't always the most romantic with over the top gestures and they don't know all the right things to say all the time. This author made her hero make a well-intentioned mistake we can all see plain as day while the heroine remains obviously out of the loop. Through arrogance and total hotness we fall in love with him, knowing what he's doing and seeing the romantic version of it. He fits this descriptions because of his charisma, charm, and quick wit - his confidence oozing from the pages making him totally delicious. His match, our heroine Delilah, oh my did this woman crack me up. Having a four year long crush on your roommate/best friend who happens to be an extremely hot man whore doesn't bode well for the slightly neurotic art gallery owner. She hides behind a thick wall of assumptions never letting her heart too close to Cole's masterful hands. But her reactions to him, her actions because of him, her affection for him - all make her true colors shine beautifully. There's a moment this woman is sitting in her sweats, all done for the day, where she's a real, honest woman. She doesn't need to anything ostentatious to provoke Cole or the reader because Eva LeNoir gives us the real deal. It's easy to see why Ms. LeNoir matched these two and did so quite perfectly.

In an effort to preserve the plot - which was another aspect I really enjoyed about Ms. LeNoir's writing, she doesn't play guessing games since the clues are there for the taking. As a reader it was just a joy to feel relaxed and content while reading a fun, romantic journey where the heroine is totally out of touch so I'm not revealing anything specific that happens plot wise. Expect humor from the #UCC girls as they all see the chemistry between Delilah and Cole while they willingly share details from their own love lives intriguing you to want to read their stories. Meet characters outside the #UCC who you'll want to know more about (ie. Jade). And experience what it's like to be in love with your best friend and roommate and have that come to fruition in a really ass-backwards yet so perfect way. The whole plot of the book really lent itself as being part of the characters. It's a little out there but it fits Cole and Dia so perfectly I couldn't have imagined anything else.

I can't say enough how much fun I had reading Disheveled. It's the perfect Sunday afternoon, contemporary romance read where you just want to kick back and enjoy a simple, zany, funny romantic book told mostly from the heroine's excellent POV with a few chapters told deliciously from the hero. These characters are ones with whom Eva LeNoir makes it easy to fall for between the pages. She made me laugh out loud numerous times. I can't wait to read the stories of the next characters in the upcoming installments of the #UCC saga and find out the meaning of #UCC. Figuring we'll get more insight into Cole and Dia plus meet more funny, real characters like them - it'll be a great series to follow.

**Reader's note** Shout out to the women of the real #UCC who inspired this series. I support you all, including you Eva, and think you're an awesome group of loving, caring, kind, funny women. There were parts of this book that had me laughing out loud just a little harder thinking of you all who had inspired these parts of the story (ass-biter, in this instance I'm talking to you!). You're a special force of women in the reading community and I'm grateful e to know all of you just a little bit.

Love love love I can't wait for more

Freaken love this story.
I loved it the first time I read it in The Intrigue Anthology and I loved it just as much if not more the second time round.
Eva writes some damn HOT scenes my goodness pass this women a fan scorching hot.
I love the flow there are no boring bits at all and the story is written do beautifully you never want it to end.
I never write a review with details of the story because I like to go into a book cold I hate teasers and I hardly ever read the synopsis I look at the genre and dive in.
So all I can tell you is go ahead and buy this book you won't be sorry. I know I'll be gifting it to a few special people in my life this week.

A MUST READ

I must admit I'm not a reader. But I am a romantic. A very complex romantic that loves seduction, love and passion. So when I heard about Disheveled and Eva LeNoir's journey on writing it based on all of the ladies in the UCC (jealous of that by the way) I couldn't wait for it to be released. I think it's brilliant. It's the perfect read for someone like me. It's easy to follow and understand. It has passion, intensity, drama and real love. I can relate whole heartedly to the princess as I feel like I have known her for years. Dia is a real gem who has a kinky side that people around her wouldn't necessarily understand. With her happy life, the perfect man is out there for her to make her life complete. This book shows u that true love does exist and it can come with seduction and passion. Honestly, cole is my hero. Hot, spicy and sexual. But at the end of the day knows what he wants and will do whatever it takes, however long it takes to get his princess. And I can't wait for the next book in the series. I want them all. As I said earlier I'm insanely jealous of the UCC. I can't wait to meet each one of them and see how their close knit ties bring them all back to tell their stories. Thank u Eva LeNoir for sharing a bit of the UCC with me and crossing me over to the dark side. I can get used to this reading business, I now have a list of books by you that I will be checking out!
